How Do We Define REAL Innovation?

The Sunday, February 26th New York Times' Sunday Review Section includes an article titled True Innovation. After reading it (see the link below) and summarizing, stating your own views on the subject, be ready to discuss your views in class before your classmates for extra credit points.

  1. True innovation was an interesting article to read about Bell Labs and the whole innovation process over at Bell Labs in the United States and about Mervin Kelly, overall good article.

  2. After reading "True Innovation" I have gained a better understanding about not only innovation itself but also about Bell labs. The article talked mostly about how Bell Labs was a powerhouse in innovation in the 20th century and how they helped build many things that we still use today. My favorite part of the article was the end were it said "But to consider the legacy of Bell Labs is to see that we should not mistake small technological steps for huge technological leaps." This to me summed up the entire article.

  3. This article provided a lot of interesting and useful information regarding how Mervin Kelly runs Bell Lab. His methods have allowed his scientist and researches to consistently create and develope new products. Marvin Kelly gives his employees the time and freedom it takes to create innovative products.

  4. This article really opens minds about how much effort it actually takes to create innovative products. Marvin Kelly himself was innovative. He trusted his researchers and gave them the freedom and time to come up with new products. "They came up with future which is what we call present."

  5. The legacy of Bell Lab is an excellent example of how technology have impacted our lives and will continue affecting our society in a positive and negative manner.Innovation is making changes progressively and we need to be ready and adapt our lives to it.
