  1. The predicament of being the president of the United States is almost the same stubborn factors through out the year’s recession, unemployment and rising energy prices. As the author Mr. Bai implies as to how much of any presidency is define by them as individuals or rather by the period in time. I strongly agree with this point because of the facts today. For instant the war took a lot out of the country financially. The increases in cost of living today are almost impossible. People faced with the sadness of not being able to pay for their homes, food and gas. Rising energy costs either the fuel for your car, light for your homes or to cook a meal. It is all connected in some way. Mr. Bai also states that historian view things differently "that Mr. Obama and his immediate predecessors have been forced to contend with the erosion of self-sufficiency." In some ways they might be right because its takes years to improve any countries economic status once it’s gone bad. Another point in my opinion the president is just one man who tries to resolve as much issues as he can. It’s up to the people no matter if you are a citizen or immigrants to do their part. By figuring out a way to use American resources less imports and more exports. This creates more jobs for the people. Helping unemployment and the economy so neither the president or the people considered chained to the world.

  2. In my opinion, the presidency has changed a lot in the last decade. It almost feels like the presidency has changed it's role from being the leader of our country, to becoming the "fall man" for failed legislature or lack thereof. With the rise of new technologies and companies trying to make profits, many jobs were outsourced for the sake of cutting back costs and getting cheaper labor. This, along with other things has had an adverse effect on our economy. Our government did not have the foresight to see these things coming and as a result our country has made the shift from being self reliant to becoming dependent on the services, products, and labor of other countries. This has been the price of globalization. I believe the economy will eventually get better, but until it does, the president, no matter who it is, will continue to be blamed for the overall failed efforts of the entire government not having seen this coming. We elect our government officials, which in turn create or fail to create laws or regulations that keep businesses and companies from taking away jobs from our citizens. In the end, part of the blame is ours.

  3. In my opinion, President Obama was selected after the America’s economy had gone really bad. Spending national money for the war and loss of national incoming had led America to the monetary troubles. As the article “The presidency, chained to the world” stated that the American presidency changed from the absolute authority to the diminished authority. The America’s economy used to be self-determined; controlled the economy almost all over the world and have the gross national income from exporting products. The America’s economy in the present day depends on other countries instead. Moreover, President Obama has to deal with unemployment issue, which led to all other problems such as crime and foreclosure. For the past two years, it has been difficult times for him to solve all problems and it will be unfair to judge President Obama for the fact that he cannot navigate the country. I think the America’s economy needs years to be improved as well as it needs help from all Americans.
