  1. College friends, Renzo Pisa and Nicholas Kling founded Give Back a Pack, a Miami based business with an affiliated non profit foundation that distributes backpacks with school supplies to Latin America. Customers buy a backpack for themselves, and then the company donates a backpack filled with supplies for a Latin American children. They are sold on their website; www.givebackapack.com, for $45. They also sell t-shirts and wristbands to support the cause. Their first drop off of 150 backpacks was made in May of last year and they have donated 2086 up to date.

I believe that this will improve public awareness. It is an inspiring and a good idea because not only will it encourage children to want to get an education but it will enable them to, as some children are not even allowed to go to school if they do not have their school supplies. Latin American children experience educational disadvantages everyday. Many of them live in poverty and their parents cannot afford the supplies. This will definitely give them the support and and encouragement that they need.

  2. I love the idea, its wonderful. first time i hear about such a project. It helps children by encourging them to go to school to get an education so they dont have to live in poverty forever and supplying them with materials motivates them to want to go to school. Maybe this year the numbers in donation will increase drastically.

  3. Renzo Pisa and Nicholas Kling two South Florida Entrepreneurs who own and operate “Give Back A Pack” out of Miami and four other cities. Customers can go online and purchase the stylish backpacks for $45 and for each sold the company will donate a supply filled backpack to a child in Latin America.
Pisa and Kling have built a great company that provides a product the backpack for a fee and turns a profit and uses some of the profit to fill the backpacks and ship to Latin America.
I think this business idea is outstanding and supports education for future generations in Latin America.

  5. Basically two guys (Renzo Pisa and Nicholas Kling) decide to create a foundation to help the children in Columbia. They get inspiration for the idea when they take a trip to Colombia and from Pisa's mother who helped children in Guatemala. Thus the Give Back a Pack foundation was born and was first established in Miami last year. The idea is to sell a backpack for 45 dollars and use that money to buy a backpack with supplies for a student in Colombia. Now there are 4 other hubs located in: Boston, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta.

I agree with the opinions before me about this being a good idea and raising public awareness about dire situations in other countries. Seeing as America had such a hard start we should be able to relate to some of these other countries. The fact that Pisa lost his job and still decided to do this with his own savings proves that their is still some good in our country. We just need to find a way to channel it into projects like Give Back a Pack.

  6. Interesting concept that lacks a more mature approach on focusing on the main issue as to where the problem derives from. Motivating these children by supplying them with the tools for a better education should also include the means to provide them with a comfortable and adequate environment to learn, nutrition and well trained teachers in addition to the backpack in order to achieve a successful outcome. Teaming up with local authorities could be beneficial as well as getting the whole community involved. The backpack filled with supplies may not be enough, but it's certainly a great start.

  8. Two Floridians with an amazing idea of helping the poverty in Latin America invent the "Give us back a pack," a back pack with the thought of the Colombian "mochilas" filled with school supplies. They go out to Latin America (La Vega, Colombia) to hand these back packs filled with school supplies to the children. These two Floridians find their concept as a good way to show these children in need that they believe in them, and that they can succeed in life.
In my opinion, I believe this is a great idea. I am a Colombian girl raised in the coast part of Colombia called Cartagena. In this city, I saw a lot of poverty. I know how hard life is for the children of Latin America when they don't have a "Peso" (dollar) to buy school supplies. I remember I would have to share school notebooks with my sister because my parents didn't have enough money at the time to buy us both school supplies since the school wasn't public, and cost a lot. So in my opinion, I believe this a wonderful and beautiful thought that these two Floridians came up with. I know that the kids from La Vega, Colombia or any other in Latin America will appreciate a lot the thought of these two men. This is a great way to motivate these young kids to keep on studying and become someone in life.

I agree with the two blogs before me. How Wesley Dorneval said, the way that Pisa lost his job and yet still thought of a way to help out these children from Latin America is wonderful. Also how he took money from his own pocket to get this idea going gives a good idea or a good look of an American. As for Rita, I also agree it is a great idea to team up with other local authorities to not only provide these children with school supplies, but also with food, clothing and other useful and necessary things.

  9. This was a very inspirational story. Giving back to th eless fortunate is always a must. Most celebrities do it just to have a good name but these guys are doing it right from their heart. "Pisa and Kling pooled their savings to create the company. Give Back has yet to break even, so Pisa is living on money he put aside while working at Merrill Lynch." This section of the reading told me that they're really for giving back. Maybe ill be doing something like this someday.
