  1. The young people are all about change and new ideas. They are less religious and lean towards gay marriage even if they themselves are not gay because its fashionable. To me this is just a phase as it was and always has been with each generation there is always going to be something to replace what was the norm.Older folks are sometimes set in their ways and respect family values. They frown on abortions and gay marriage because in their days those things were done privately. People use to keep what they do indoors it was never discussed. If you son was gay he would be punnished while a pregnant unwed daughter would be sent away to live with relatives or the child given up for abortion before she returned home. Its just the same with politics as the politician with more liberal views is seen as a icon. President Obama has identified with the music culture and even the sports of this day and age so he is going to be cool and "in" with the young people. If you are a person who keep up with him you would see he mentioned Lil Wayne among other singers and rappers. He is an avid basket ball player which puts him inline with people like Dwyane Wade. He will be around for a while if he continue because these young people like to associate with "cool" people.

    1. I totally agree with you the other thing I would like to add to this is when you look at the generation today notice I didn't say "our" because not many people are into this lifestyle or "keeping up with the new trend" to me this generation is not growing because I remember every generation we always had someone who died for change but now we see people dying for a pair of Jordan's.

  2. This article to me argues the line of young and old adults and how it affects our future politically and economically. I feel that the age gap has increase throughout the years. Since being able to vote I don’t feel that the older population shares the same views when it comes to voting some are shared but other very opposite. I only 23 years old may favor Obama this election but my 75 year old grandma may actually prefer Romney. Around 2004 that’s when the article believes the votes shifted left to right. Obama winning the election this year, this was also the first year I voted. Some may see it as a coincidence I beg to differ. I don’t feel that older citizens favor gay marriages while the young adults have very open opinions on it. It mentions how young adults are suffering education cuts which are unfair. As a young adult I understand the importance of an education. If they cut our funding how will we advance as country? The young are also working for senior citizens in the sense that they deduct a lot of money from social security for these seniors and I doubt that they will see any money of it. So I understand why the young also favor private accounts for social security. They would receive a check of their own hard worked money. In one way I agree with the author in the sense that both young and older adults feel the same about same sex marriage’s they are outnumbered in votes and would not prefer to pass a law that allows it, although other may not feel the same. I feel that there is a line but it is very fine older adults have shared some opinions of the younger ones and vice versa but there is really no choosing sides and there is just the in between.

  3. They really should focus more on us (young adults)because we are future, and take heed to our opinions. Times are changing and will continue to change, you cant approach certains issues how you would in the earlier days. What might have worked for them back in the day. isnt working in THIS day. Those ways of problem solving are obslete. And why would you consider more the opinions of older americans who may or may not be here in the next couple of years--
