Do We Hava a Choice with Respect to Race?

The March 18th New York Times' Sunday Review section includes an article titled "As Black as We Wish to Be" (see link below) which discusses today's "options" regarding racial classifications. After reading the article and summarizing it on the blog, state your opinion and be ready to discuss your views along with the author's in class for extra credit.

  1. As I read this article, the lady on the store that made the comment about adopting kids from the ghetto was wrong. Once upon a time there people expecting blacks to "show out" as we would say. Today as I walk in the store or anywhere out in publix I see the opposite. Spanish/ Caucasians (Kids) throouw themselves on the floor kick, scream, while we watch. Yet times have changed and what were considered to be the expectationd of Blacks to ne low. low grades , Less jobs, poverty, etc now when it all boils down everyone if still the same and still human

  2. It's a shame to see that people are judged by their races rather than their character. I wonder how this woman feel now to see the boy she accused of being from the ghetto because of the color of his skin is now the President of the U.S.A. Better than any of her family will ever be . President Obama has definately given hope to the black race. They are now free to marry interracial, free to choose whatever career they want, etc. The sky is the limit. Let freedom ring. Martin Luther King's dream has come to reality in this dispensation with high hopes for the future
